IRB Repository

The VCU-CERSE IRB Repository is an initiative to assist affiliated researchers in maintaining optimal conditions for conducting human subject research which includes foremost compliance with VCU’s Internal Review Board (IRB) standards, policies and procedures. This repository is a mechanism to electronically store, track, and access IRB submission and approval documentation. It is the instrument through which VCU-CERSE will ensure affiliated researchers are maintaining compliance with VCU-IRB standards.

The Process:

Principal Investigators and Research Coordinators throughout the VCU-CERSE network are asked to provide all IRB submission & approval documentation; the information will be electronically stored in the repository.

VCU-CERSE's staff:

  • Meet/communicate regularly with PI's and/or Research Coordinators;
  • Compile and upload IRB documentation;
  • Monitor, maintain and update the repository;
  • Assess user satisfaction/needs; and
  • Streamline the process for collecting, storing, and managing information within the database.

The Benefits:

This initiative ensures valuable outcomes for all involved:

  • A clear accounting of IRB status for each research study;
  • A centralized repository to electronically store, track and access IRB submission & approval documentation; and
  • An accurate picture of all current research studies, contributing to increased partnership prospects.

Researchers and coordinators will have:

  • Easy access to/retrieval of IRB documentation;
  • Assistance in maintaining compliance for multiple studies requiring varied approval paths and expiration dates; and
  • Notification in advance of key milestones such as upcoming IRB expiration dates, continuing review due dates, etc.
